This month we had two major incidents with fire, and I feel that we should spread the word.

We never ever had such issues but it seems that our old cable extensions are aging? The first incident was pretty stupid. As I was cleaning Mojojo second tank, I turned off the socket with an extension which I thought, (and it should be) where all his aquarium devices were hooked up. Another socket was for our cctv, which for some dumb reason Mojojo decided to unplug it and hook his tank heater on.

I took the heater out, placed it on the floor, not knowing it was slowly heating the flooring.

We woke up at night to our smoke alarm blaring and the aquarium hall filled with smoke! It took the heater nearly 12hour to start actually burning the floor. How insidious!!

Thank god for smoke alarm guys. Please, make sure your alarm is working after you read this!!

The second incident involved electricity. Last week our fuse for dining room sockets kept flipping. I left it to Mojojo to investigate, and he called an electrician instead 😂 the electrician checked and said nothing was wrong, and it must have been something that was plugged in which I quickly remove after the flip. He left then, and was kind enough not to charge us for housecall!

I came home from work and looked into it. It turned out to be one of our cable extensions that is probably 10 years old at this point.

Today, our fuse flipped again! Not knowing what was going on Mr Monday went to checked and told me that there was a strong smell of smoke. Both of us were sniffing the entire house and thought it was the TV. We unplugged everything at the TV socket and flipped the fuse up – – – which stayed up.

A few hours after when Mojojo came home from shopping, the fuse flipped again (I was oblivious to this) and he told me that he think it might be the radiator.

Huh? But the radiator is not powered. It’s just a pipe and valve system. He then said it was my kettle, until he saw that all his precious pea puffers were bellied up in his aquarium.

One of his aquarium devices (either heater or his 3000 filters has somehow… Burn? Or shocked? And electrocuted all the fish in his tank!

I mean seriously he’s terrible with the tank. I have no idea why he needs so many filters and electronics for his aquarium 😭

We spent all day trying to save his fishes, about half of them came back alive. For some reason he blamed me for the incident… Which honestly I really haven’t done anything 😭😭😭. It’s probably worth mentioning that all his fish devices are hooked onto this really long strip of extension that is also 10 years old!!!! Is this just a coincidece???

I spent all day today trying to tidy up wires for #firesafety purpose. To be fair the wires behind our TV are so insanely messy it’s probably a massive fire hazard as well. We had to rearrange a lot of our furniture to make sure the source of the powers are all visible to avoid this happening again.

We’re also replacing all our old extension cords for safety, and so should you!!

Apparently old cords are probably not suitable for use as new devices would draw more power than it can handle so try to replace yours as often as possible.

I’m so exhausted with the scare today 😭😭😭 and tomorrow is dreaded Monday!!!
